Gails Kitchen is the sit down restaurant from the Gails bakery chain you’ll all know and love if you live in London. It’s just off Tottenham Court Road inside the MyHotel and next door to one of these bakery chains – hidden behind a curtain and full of rustic wood tables and prints of library books. The Bloomsbury/Charlotte Street area has been bursting with foodie treats for a while and they are what is making Fitzrovia one of the most exciting areas of London right now.
We find ourselves regularly suggesting Gails Kitchen for any lunch date /after-work gathering – the emphasis is on great bread (obviously) and small dishes which are mainly vegetarian but with fantastic combinations of ingredients and flavours that don’t leave you missing the meat – every dish is delicious and you have to be quite strict to not order one of everything. The Haute List girls decided to go for an after work treat and left with giant food babies – so much so that we could barely fit the incredible dessert which was such a shame! So what did we eat??? A friend recently asked us where she could take a friend who was getting married as a treat for lunch in London. She wanted somewhere with a great room that wasn’t too tiny and with a lively atmosphere, great food (obviously) and something that felt special, but without a huge bill at the end of it. We gave her these recommendations on the basis that some are new, some are classics, but all come with a great lunch option showcasing the best from the menu at an affordable price. Hubbard & Bell is a restaurant in the new Hoxton Hotel (in Holborn!) and is part of the Soho House ever-expanding portfolio. They’ve also incorporated a Holborn Grind coffee shop and a new branch of one of our favourites; Chick Shop (aka posh Nandos – and everything comes with their immense butter lettuce and avocado salad) in the basement. It had come highly recommended, particularly for the oxtail with marmalade on toast and the s’mores – so naturally we booked immediately! (more…)
