We love Autumn, or ‘Fall’ if you’re reading this across the pond. Specifically we love October with its deep copper leaves crunching underfoot, and the excuse it gives you to nurse steaming mugs of rich hot chocolate (with marshmallows on top right?)
Most of all though, we love it because it brings with it one of the best holidays: Hallowe’en! Maybe it’s because we were the kids that fully embraced the dress-up box, or maybe it’s because of a tween/teenage predilection for Goosebumps, Tim Burton and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Most likely it’s down to the fact that it’s a holiday centred around sugar.
We are in the midst of putting together our new home office – we are going for a bright and airy space but want to add some whimsical touches to it. Having scoured through pages of desks and storage options, we came across Essa Designed; a Melbourne- based company that specialise in fantastic prints specifically for home offices to add some character to your personal space.
The Haute List is a big fan of Yotam Ottolenghi. We often frequent his eponymous restaurants in Notting Hill & Islington for yummy middle-eastern inspired salads and gorgeous baked treats. His gilded outpost in Piccadilly; NOPI, is the place to go for delicious nosh like roasted butternut squash with cardamom yoghurt and pecans.
What we particularly like about Ottolenghi’s cooking is the love he gives to the humble vegetable. We’re not vegetarians, but when we want a break from chicken breasts and salmon fillets we always turn to his cookbook, Plenty. He crafts complex and delicious meat-free recipes that will change the way you cook veggies.
There are many things we love about autumn; the excuse it gives us to invest in a fancy pair of new boots, the glowing pumpkins and fiendish sugar indulgence of Hallowe’en, and cosying up warm in cashmere blankets as the rain beats against your window. There are, however, things we do not look forward to with equal zeal. One of those is bad hair.
Hair woe is inevitable when you’re battling wind, water or both on an almost daily basis. It’s even more challenging when you have thick hair as both Joelle & I do (yes we know, a gift and a curse). We’ve learnt that regular conditioners just don’t cut it this time of year. When the cold starts creeping in it’s time to call out the big guns. (more…)
Gallivant; verb: to roam around in search of pleasure or amusement, often in search of food.
We were certainly hunting for a weekend retreat, somewhere not too far from London with good food and some nice scenery to literally gallivant around. We stumbled upon The Gallivant, a shabby chic boutique hotel which boasted a 2 minute stroll from the beach dunes of the Camber Sands. It was pretty reasonable too considering the location, and the prospect of roaming around on the vast golden beaches in the sunshine ticked a few more boxes! (more…)
