So here at The Haute List we have been quite busy getting married, moving jobs, house hunting and having a baby! That has left little time for blogging… but as part of the thought process behind The Haute List is our love of lists (travel lists… foodie lists… beauty lists etc.) we thought it would be a good time to revive it for this one.
When I was pregnant this year, I only had a couple of friends who had recently had a baby and could help me prepare for all the many things these little people apparently need. Luckily, they were brilliantly organised people (probably why we’re such good friends!) and had lists and spreadsheets on hand to give me. Similar lists tend to do the rounds between friends and over time I started to build my own from hours of Amazon review-reading and my own trial and error.
I am now in the very exciting position of having many more friends who are due soon, and some have asked me for my recommendations to pass on. I’ve tried to think of everything, but inevitably every parent and kid is different and my style and approach is by no means universal. Aurora is also only 3 months old so I have yet to venture into the wonderful world of weaning (although I fear I am already on the boundaries of teething) so it’s only a list of what I would recommend so far. Hope it helps! (more…)
We were looking for a last minute sunshine break for May, which is always tricky as it’s in-between seasons. Europe – too cold. Asia – monsoons. USA – reliable weather-wise but not really offering white sandy “wanderlust” / “gypset” / “[insert alternative blogger paradise analogy]” locations.
It was to be a “babymoon” – a novel concept that I cynically assume was invented by the luxury travel industry so that the mandatory and aggressive price hikes applied as soon as you say the word “honeymoon” can now apply to a whole new range of holidays. So having made some initial enquiries without uttering the B-word, we arrived at a surprisingly short list of options for our proposed wishlist of (i) hot sun; (ii) nice beach; and (iii) coconuts on tap in mid-May. We settled on Mexico, and specifically Tulum – the new trendy jetsetter village (it is barely a town) about 2 hours south of Cancun. (more…)
We have often had discussions with friends and colleagues about the best gifts to buy for different occasions, from big birthdays to new house moves and more recently for new mums. Weddings are usually taken care of by a gift list so it’s the other events that tend to get everyone stumped. The last thing you want to do is be the friend who buys them another unimaginative voucher.
We’ve been experimenting with different gift combos for newborns depending on the price point. One of our new favourite things to do is to build a bespoke hamper (or Haute Box!) to put a few little things together. We’ve created our own suggestions for our three Haute Box options – £50, £100 and a couple of splurge ideas, depending on how much you want to spend. Let us know what you think, and if you need a hand sourcing other little extras to make the whole package look even more special.
P.s. it is really obvious that I don’t like “colour”?!
Do you remember those Easter eggs you used to get as a kid? Large cardboard boxes eagerly torn to shreds to reveal a glossy, foil-wrapped oval of overwhelmingly sweet, milky chocolate. Our levels of chocolate greed gave Augustus Gloop a serious run for his money.
Then we grew up and the inevitable happened; we started finding those branded eggs cloying and much too sweet. Oh to be a chocolate snob. So we searched high and low for Easter eggs that would satisfy our post-adolescent taste-buds but would still make our inner child chuckle with glee. Luckily for you hautties we found them! (more…)
We spent a few days in New York recently and did loads of homework on the best places to go, eat, stay and explore. If you’re thinking of a city break there look no further than our Haute List city guide… with a predictable emphasis on the food! It’s pretty comprehensive so hopefully we’ve covered everything you need to know… Enjoy and let us know if we missed anywhere good – any excuse to go back!
